Job Summary:

The Crossing Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe passage of students and pedestrians across roads and highways near the school. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor traffic and pedestrian flow to ensure safe crossing conditions.
  • Direct and instruct students and pedestrians on safe crossing procedures.
  • Encourage safe behavior among pedestrians and discourage unsafe behavior.
  • Inform motorists of pedestrian presence and right-of-way.
  • Report incidents and hazardous conditions to the school administration.
  • Remain standing at the post during duty hours and never leave the post unattended.
  • Set a good example and maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic first aid training is a plus, but not required.
  • Good physical condition, including sight, hearing, and mobility.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with children and others.
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check and child abuse registry check.

Working Conditions:

The Crossing Guard will work outdoors in various weather conditions and will be required to wear a reflective vest and carry a traffic STOP paddle while on duty.
