Job Summary:

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team in Campus Planning and Facilities. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various systems, including water, gas, drainage, air, heating systems, and backflow prevention assemblies. Your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient operation of these systems, minimizing disruptions to our campus community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to trouble calls, assess problems, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
• Develop and implement the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Plan, including inspections and maintenance of regulatory-compliant systems
• Conduct regular maintenance on multiple interconnected systems, identifying deficiencies and taking corrective action
• Estimate labor and materials for renovations, upgrades, and projects, recommending improvements as needed
• Collaborate with various departments and external contractors to ensure seamless system operation and maintenance
• Stay up-to-date on advances in system and equipment design, adapting older systems to new components and parts
• Maintain currency in the field through ongoing learning and professional development

Requirements:

• Valid Trades Qualification or Interprovincial Trades Ticket (Journey person status)
• Technical education and/or certifications in the relevant building trades industry
• Minimum two years general trades experience and up to four years relevant experience in the building trades industry
• Ability to assess blueprints and make recommendations for specific trade requirements
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for exceptional customer service
