Job Overview

FortisBC is a leading energy provider with over 100 years of experience. We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Operations Specialist to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for controlling the flow of gas in our pipeline system, ensuring safe and efficient operating conditions. This includes monitoring pipeline data, analyzing alarms, and responding to potential problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control pipeline pressures and flows through remote controlled equipment such as compressors and valves
  • Monitor pipeline data, including pressures and flow rates, using a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system
  • Analyze and respond to alarms and other potential problems according to established procedures
  • Forecast daily gas requirements by analyzing current weather forecast information, historical load and temperature data, customer estimates, and historical data
  • Determine the availability of gas for interruptible sales based on supply and economics
  • Allocate available supply to interruptible customers and issue curtailment notices
  • Maintain proper curtailment records

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in a directly related field (e.g., Power Engineering, Gas Processing)
  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASTTBC
  • Red Seal Interprovincial Certificate in an industry-related field (e.g., Instrumentation and Control, Millwright)
  • Ability to pass Operator Qualification Training internal certification
  • Demonstrated five (5) years directly related experience in Control Room, Pipeline Operations, Plant Operations, Field Instrumentation, Pipeline Hydraulics Planning, or Design Engineering
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and knowledge in pipeline hydraulics, gas (fluids) processes, pipeline operations, field equipment, compression, and control systems, and thermodynamics
  • Intermediate level computer literacy, including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and other applicable software
