Job Summary

The Career Advisor will provide support to self-identifying women in YWCA Metro Vancouver's Changing Gears Program. This program offers a free Class 1 Truck Driving & Employment Program for eligible self-identifying women, funded by the Government of Canada and Province of BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging employability and job search workshops using hybrid technology, in person and virtually.
  • Provide ongoing program and on-site training support and coaching to participants.
  • Conduct regular scheduled check-ins of participants.
  • Maintain and submit timely, accurate monthly participant attendance reports to WorkBC case managers.
  • Assist clients with resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation.
  • Maintain timely, accurate participant action plan records and uphold strict confidentiality.
  • Attend scheduled meetings with program staff to discuss program updates and participant needs.
  • Other duties as required, including administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Possession of a passion for working with self-identifying women entering a male-dominated industry.
  • Ideally 2 – 5 years combined experience in facilitation, career counseling, and/or job coaching, or a combination of related education and work experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Comfortable with all Microsoft applications, including Outlook.
  • Flexibility to work on and off-site when required.
  • Self-starter: ability to take initiative, maintain effective and professional work habits, and produce timely and effective results.
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in SharePoint, MS Teams, Zoom, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be willing to travel in the Lower Mainland region to meet with participants during the driving component of the program, including ICBC road tests.
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Must be able to work at the physical office location to deliver in-person participant services.
  • A valid clear criminal record check, including working with vulnerable populations, is required.
  • The YWCA Metro Vancouver's COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended, and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time.
