At the Regional Municipality of Peel, we are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Policy Specialist to join our team in the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division.

About the Role

This is a contract full-time position, with an estimated salary range of $89,469 - $111,834 per annum, plus comprehensive benefits. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid work arrangement, with flexibility to work off-site and on-site as needed.

The Public Health Policy Specialist will play a key role in supporting the advancement of chronic disease and injury prevention through critical program and policy analysis, monitoring and assessment of legislation, data analysis, completion of evidence reviews, and the writing of reports/corporate communications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain awareness of trends, risks, and opportunities related to chronic disease and injury prevention, and provide recommendations to inform policy and programming decisions.
  • Provide expert interpretation of legislation and internal policies and procedures to support informed decision-making.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of public health and technical expertise in population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and evidence-informed decision making to analyze complex information and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Monitor, develop, implement, and advocate for policies that have positive population health implications.
  • Ensure issues of diversity, ethnicity, language, and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master's degree in Public Health Sciences or a relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of work experience in a Public Health setting, with a focus on policy analysis and development.
  • Broad knowledge of public health issues and applicable legislation, including experience in evidence-informed decision-making methodology, project management, and policy development.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for various audiences.
