About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Architect to join our team at Alquemy Search & Consulting. This is a full-time permanent position based in GTA, offering a hybrid work environment with 2-3 days per week in our Downtown Toronto office.

Job Description

  • The successful candidate will lead DB2 z/OS projects and initiatives, collaborating with seasoned DBAs to drive strategic objectives.
  • They will work closely with DB2 z/OS System Programmers on upgrades, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies.
  • This role involves providing database support for critical applications using DB2 z/OS and IMS databases/transactions.
  • The Senior Database Architect will provide technical guidance to Host database and transaction management technology teams on deployment and usage standards.
  • They will lead application development and support teams in optimal database utilization, creating and communicating standards, and walking them through critical application components.
  • The primary focus will be on designing databases that meet defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs), maximize reuse of existing structures, and minimize operational costs.
  • The successful candidate will ensure all database changes are thoroughly tested and implemented to avoid system impact.
  • Database-related technical support will be provided for both development and production environments, including 24/7 on-call support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist infrastructure teams with DB2 z/OS version upgrades, maintenance, and enhancement of database products.
  • Create and maintain Host database & transaction processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
  • Provide technical support for transaction processing, data access, utilities, performance tuning, security, and database recovery. Coach Application staff as needed.
  • Analyze complex technical issues and perform required analysis to resolve them.
  • Offer skilled counsel in the technical design of applications.
  • Research, analyze, and recommend software/utility usage.
  • Serve as the technical lead for projects.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in database and transaction management technologies and operating systems, with experience supporting critical applications using DB2 z/OS databases.
  • High-level competence with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis & tuning.
  • Experience leading DB2 z/OS and Tools upgrade projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge, as well as transfer it to others.
  • Good coaching/mentoring skills.

Estimate Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum
