Job Description:
The Mental Health Nurse Clinician is a critical role within our organization, providing consultation and support to staff in non-mental health areas of the hospital. This position requires a strong clinical assessment of mental health patients and the ability to work independently and within a team of psychiatrists, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
The successful candidate will provide consultation regarding complex patient care needs to nurses, physicians, and other members of the team within the Mental Health program. They will also apply advances knowledge to promote patient/family and staff learning/coaching about evidence-based practice in mental health.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- 3-5 years of recent experience functioning in a crisis or consultation role in a general hospital or specialized psychiatric facility
- Excellent knowledge of Mental Health Legislation
- Certification in Substance Use Treatment preferred
- Advanced knowledge in mental health specialty areas such as Eating Disorders, Addictions, Older Adult
- Excellent knowledge of community agencies and referral resources
