About the Role

Sierra Space is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented System Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will support various projects and initiatives related to the development and integration of aerospace systems, gaining hands-on experience in systems engineering and working alongside experienced professionals on cutting-edge technologies and missions.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn fundamental business processes and procedures, build technical skills through practice and mentorship, and participate in cross-functional workshops and meetings with leadership to gain understanding of the business and Sierra Space culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the analysis of system requirements and specifications to ensure they meet project goals
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of system documentation, including requirements, system architecture, analysis, and test plans
  • Utilizing modeling and simulation tools to analyze system performance and behavior to meet program requirements and capabilities
  • Supporting integration of system components to define and mature system interfaces
  • Participating in testing activities to verify and validate system requirements and assisting in troubleshooting any issues that arise
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including design, test, and SW engineers, and program management teams, to facilitate communication and collaboration
  • Conducting and supporting research on new technologies or methodologies to improve system performance and development processes
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings, progress, and recommendations to the team
  • Engaging in training sessions to understand systems engineering principles and best practices

Key Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in engineering or a related discipline
  • Basic understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools, such as MATLAB, Simulink, or similar for system modeling and simulation
  • Completed coursework relevant to systems engineering, systems integration, and requirements management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Compensation:

Salary: $35.00/hour for Master's students, $42.00/hour for PhD students, $28.00-$31.00/hour for undergraduate students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Must have at least one academic term remaining after the completion of the internship
  • Students must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior undergraduate student or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Program
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Strong organization skills and work ethic; detail oriented
