Your Opportunity:

In line with Alberta Health Services' Mission Statement and Values, the Environmental Services Worker I (ESI) is a vital member of the Environmental Services Team. The ESI is responsible for routine cleaning, waste collection, and facility upkeep, as well as detailed or special cleanings in areas such as operating rooms, pharmacy, and more. The ESI must adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards and perform other related duties as required.

Description:

As an Environmental I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with the cleaning and disinfecting of clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, restocking supplies in bathroom facilities, and stripping linen and remaking beds. This includes replenishing cleaning supplies and linens and identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming
  • Restock supplies in bathroom facilities and replenish cleaning supplies and linens
  • Strip linen and remake beds
  • Identify and report potential hazards to your Working Leader

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of a computer, including Microsoft Office. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift, push, and pull up to 22 lbs of force.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including repetitive and/or long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, or lifting. Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Able to work holidays/weekends and a variety of shift times. Basic computer skills. Previous cleaning experience. Ability to clean in isolation areas (ED, OR, ICU, NICU, etc.). WHMIS certificate.
