Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone is seeking a highly skilled medical-administrative leader to join their team as the Zone Clinical Section Chief, Surgical Hospital Medicine.

About the Role

This part-time leadership position is responsible for guiding strategic planning, program development, and quality care for patients receiving clinical services through the Section of Surgical Hospital Medicine. The successful candidate will work closely with the Surgery and Family Medicine leadership teams to provide expert guidance and advice on matters within the Department of Family Medicine.

The role involves conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring effective support at the site level for clinical service delivery, teaching, and research. Additionally, the Zone Clinical Section Chief will be responsible for recruitment and retention of physicians to the section and liaise with Zone Councils and other site medical leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance on strategic planning and program development for the Section of Surgical Hospital Medicine.
  • Work collaboratively with the Surgery and Family Medicine leadership teams to advance departmental goals and objectives.
  • Conduct performance management and quality improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Recruit and retain physicians to the section, and provide support for clinical service delivery, teaching, and research.
  • Liaise with Zone Councils and other site medical leaders to advance departmental interests.
Requirements

To be considered for this leadership role, candidates must possess:

  • Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) or equivalent designation.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.
  • Evidence of formal administrative education and training.
