Job Description:

The Trade Supervisor, Mechanical will oversee the team of tradespeople at Seaspan Shipyards, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant project completion. This role requires coordination with Trade Management and reporting to an Area Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and compliant work practices across the shipyard.
  • Lead the team to deliver high-quality products and meet customer standards.
  • Collaborate with management to establish goals and hold employees accountable for performance.
  • Implement and carry out Seaspan's health, safety, environmental, and quality processes.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of related trades work experience outside of trades apprenticeship or educational program.
  • A minimum of an additional 3 years of previous supervisory experience in a heavy industrial environment, preferably unionized.
  • Dedication to safety and quality, with experience in the application of behavioural based safety.
  • Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing/shipbuilding (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging, etc.).
  • Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Time management and organization skills with a proven dedication to follow-up and follow-through.
  • Ability to empower others, lead change, have difficult conversations, and coordinate discipline when required.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills to resolve disagreements quickly and successfully, bringing a problem-solving demeanor to conflicting approaches and priorities.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with others towards a shared goal.
  • Appreciation and understanding of the value of diversity within a team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and web-based applications.
