Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring timely processing of all files to the bank.
- Reconcile statutory government remittances and prepare unscheduled deductions and payroll adjustments.
- Liaise with timekeepers and prepare communications regarding payroll.
- Audit employee file changes and process related adjustments.
- Provide monthly payroll training for timekeepers and managers.
- Reconcile and prepare the bi-weekly audit file for review by Payroll Coordinator and Controller.
- Prepare and balance monthly employee benefit accounts.
- Complete Payroll month-end close and associated journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare pre-authorized payments for parking and benefits.
- Assist the Payroll Manager with annual audits for payroll with external auditors.
- Reconcile employee pension deductions and liaise with Human Resources and HOOPP regarding pension-related queries.
- Prepare proper documentation and payments for terminated employees and those on leave of absence.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement of payroll processes, including project leadership.
- Liaise with Occupational Health to ensure accurate reporting for STD/LTD claims.
- Assist with year-end processing and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and ICT Department on workflow creation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Serve as key point of contact for Meditech, ensuring dictionaries are maintained and leading resolution of system issues.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain current knowledge base related to payroll and related information systems.
Requirements:
- Possess a Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation or other payroll certifications.
- Hold a diploma or university degree.
- Have a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive relevant payroll experience.
- Preferably have worked in a hospital environment or large government sector not-for-profit organization (NPO).
- Demonstrate success in a fast-paced, high-complexity, and high-volume work environment.
- Proven ability to remain solution-oriented when faced with difficult situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting is required.
- Techincally competent with experience in large ERP systems and intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, Meditech experience is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively work with all levels of the organization with a customer focus.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Innovative, tactful, detail-oriented, and having initiative.
- Proven analytical and organizational skills, able to organize, prioritize, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Physically able to sit, stand, walk, occasional lift, and/or carry approximately 20lbs.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record.
Benefits:
- Monday to Friday hour days.
- $72,172 to $92,715 annually salary range.
