Heavy Equipment Technician

Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will perform duties and tasks related to the preventative and corrective maintenance of specialized railway construction equipment and other related construction equipment and vehicles. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to new methods and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including inspections, tests, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Work from blueprints, service manuals, and schematic drawings to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
- Conduct inspections and tests to identify potential problems and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
- Use cutting torches and welders to perform fabrication tasks, including welding and metalworking.
- Operate equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments.
- Diagnose equipment problems and take corrective action to minimize the impact on crew production.
- Adapt to new methods, processes, and equipment, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Requirements:
- Licenced heavy equipment and/or Ag equipment Licence required.
- Previous field service experience and knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Forklift certification, First Aid, and DZ or higher drivers licence.
- A safety-oriented work ethic and ability to follow instructions, rules, and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work as a valuable member of a team.
