Marine Engineer

About the Role

Océan is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Engineer to join our team. As an Engineer Officer, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our tug's machinery, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our vessels.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain all machinery on fleet vessels, including starting and stopping procedures for main engines and auxiliary generators.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to procedures and guidelines, ensuring the vessel is always in a safe and operational state.
• Perform repairs and maintenance of engine room and all equipment on board, working closely with other team members to ensure minimal downtime.
• Ensure proper operation of equipment on board, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
• Dismantle, repair and reinstall equipment related to main diesel engines, auxiliary diesel engines, hydraulic valves, water pumps and electrical systems onboard the vessel.
• Read and understand vessel drawings, including hull, piping diagrams, machinery and electrical diagrams.
• Participate in and support the activities of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System.

Requirements

• Canadian 3rd Class Marine Engineer's Certificate (Motor)
• Propulsion plant simulator Level 2 certificate
• Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience at sea as an engineer
• Valid Marine Medical Certificate
• Certificates of competency: Basic Safety STCW-BS; Lifeboat and rescue boat operating skills, other than fast rescue boats; Advanced firefighting techniques (certificates of competency required for marine voyages outside the Gulf)
• Good knowledge of diesel mechanics and hydraulic systems
• Analytical skills for problem-solving and troubleshooting
• Ability to work on a computer in a Microsoft 365 environment
• Responsible, autonomous, motivated by teamwork and punctual
• Bilingualism in French and English, oral and written (asset)
