Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Corporate Counsel Lead to join our legal team in Toronto. This role will play a critical part in supporting the growth and success of our retail business, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and risk management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements related to technology, supply chain, financial services, licensing, marketing, consulting, and operational vendor agreements.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance on business and legal issues across various portfolios, including financial services, supply chain, CASL, privacy/information security, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage disputes and oversee litigation, including settlement negotiations and agreements.
  • Serve as the legal lead on company-wide projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Identify legal and business concerns within complex deals and coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize risk.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of corporate-commercial experience at a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present clear and practical legal advice.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities.
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines.
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and recommendations.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the bar.
