POSITION VACANCY : DISTRICT FINANCE PROFESSIONAL

The School District #83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) invites applications from individuals who are seeking a challenging and rewarding financial leadership opportunity. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Finance Department, providing direction and support for accounting, payroll, and benefits functions and services, as well as budgeting process.

Our Organization

School District #83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) is a widely dispersed district serving over 6,800 K-12 students in twenty-four schools with a staff of more than 1,200 employees. We are committed to enhancing a positive work environment for staff and a dynamic, inclusive, and supportive educational experience for students.

The Role

Under the general direction of the Director of Finance, the District Finance Professional coordinates district financial systems, monitors individual budgets, and maintains the integrity of the district's accounting systems. This role requires a strong understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), computer information systems, and accounting practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA), or possess a post-secondary degree in business/finance
  • CPA Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation (preferred)
  • Minimum five years' experience in managing unionized staff in a complex computerized accounting department
  • A strong background in data management, analytical skills, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated organization, interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively assess and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships between departments
