As an Occupational Therapist II at Alberta Health Services, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment designed to meet the complex needs of individuals with dementia syndrome and challenging behaviors. Reporting to the Area Manager Allied Health, you will collaborate with the care community to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Recreation Therapy, and Social Work, working closely with nursing teams.

Salary Information

We offer a competitive rate of pay, and as an added benefit, Alberta Health Services has implemented a Remote Retention Allowance, payable up to $3,000 annually on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate occupational therapy and allied health clinical services within a program or service area
  • Supervise students and team members as assigned
  • Making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge, and follow-up
  • Providing leadership to other healthcare professionals, making decisions on complex cases, and advising team members
  • Ensuring occupational therapy practice is evidence-based, aligned with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards, code of ethics, and AHS policy and guidelines

You will also participate in program development and operational planning, represent the department on committees or programs, make decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out roles such as direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator, and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider Level C
  • Alberta Aides to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer status preferred
  • Clinical experience in various healthcare settings, with specific experience in managing Dementia Syndrome preferred
