Counsellor and Student Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Counsellor and Student Support Specialist to join our team at the Nova Scotia Community College. This is a key role in supporting students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide career, academic, and personal counselling services to students in the Adult Learning Program, focusing on adult learners seeking the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults.
- Engage in student intake assessment, data management, orientation, and retention support services, collaborating with teams from the School of Access, Education, and Language, as well as Student Services and external agencies.
- Develop close working relationships with faculty members in the Adult Learning Program and collaborate regularly with staff members in Student Services.
- A Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling, or another relevant field enabling registration with provincial regulatory bodies (NSCCT, NSCSW, or NSBEP).
- Registration with, or candidacy process underway with, the relevant regulatory body.
- A minimum of five years' post-counselling credential occupational experience, providing counselling services to adults in various specialties, including academic, career, and personal counselling.
- Familiarity with and proficiency in using computer applications like the Microsoft Office Suite, email, learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace), Microsoft Teams, and enterprise resource planning systems (e.g., Peoplesoft).
- Experience training, preparing, delivering, and evaluating training/facilitation content.
- Strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals and resolve issues.
- Superior customer service skills to establish trust beyond immediate interactions.
- Effective team working skills to contribute positively to a collaborative environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills related to student orientations, intake processes, and assessments.
- Dedication to life-long learning with a scheduled annual professional development program.
This role requires excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a digital environment and have a proven ability to adapt to technology advancements. Strong knowledge of the adult learner and lifework development frameworks is essential.
The estimated salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
