Portfolio Investment Specialist

About the Role:

The Portfolio Investment Specialist will play a key part in managing the operational aspects of RBC’s Canadian Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans. This will involve providing analytical support to Portfolio Managers in areas such as portfolio performance reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide data-driven insights to support investment decision-making, monitoring, and reporting processes.
  2. Lead ad-hoc analysis of emerging risks, changes in portfolio strategy, and deep dives into portfolio concepts.
  3. Develop and maintain timely and accurate information essential for investment decision-making and governance.
  4. Prepare and present quarterly performance and risk reports to the Pension Plan Management Committee and other relevant stakeholders.
  5. Contribute to the development and implementation of new plan governance policies and control procedures.
  6. Manage cash requirements for major investment transactions, including contributions, dispositions, portfolio transitions, and portfolio rebalancing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, with 5+ years of complementary demonstrated investment experience.
  • Professional designation (or progress towards) in a relevant investment industry discipline, e.g., CFA, FRM, CAIA, ASA.
  • Expertise in investment industry disciplines and best practices, typically acquired through experience with financial research and/or modeling in an institutional investment organization or similar environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, with expertise in complex Excel spreadsheets; experience with Power BI and Python is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of investment sustainability, performance, and risk analysis, including ESG integration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and resolve data and calculation errors.
