Job Summary: As a highly skilled Database Administrator at NAV CANADA, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing national system changes and enhancements. With a strong background in database administration and a passion for innovation, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and direction in one or more areas of specialization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced specialization in one or more areas of database administration and/or apply expertise cross-functionally.
  • Lead on-going life-cycle support of national system(s) in own functional area for the company nationally.
  • Resolve complex interrelated application, database, operating systems, hardware problems and provide advice and guidance on technical data management and systems administrative issues.
  • Provide input to development, identification, and resolution of potential inconsistencies with current and planned policies, training, plans, architecture, policies, national technical standards, and work instructions.
  • Analyze, plan, specify, define technical requirements for new software/applications, databases to ensure current and future interoperability with NAV CANADA business systems infrastructure.

Requirements:

Education:

  • A Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer science or information systems.

Experience:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of hands-on experience in supporting Microsoft SQL Server (2008 to 2019).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in supporting Oracle databases (12c/19c).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of administration, planning and deployment of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning and licensing.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Databases and cybersecurity considerations.

Personal Qualities:

  • Excellent assessment, analytical and testing skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple complex projects and make decisions in uncertain situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based at the Ottawa Logistics Centre location and is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
  • On-Call is required for this position.
