Casual Education Assistant Opportunity

Kootenay Lake School District is seeking a qualified Casual Education Assistant to provide support for students with identified special needs in the Creston area Family of Schools.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative team to provide specialized support for students with special needs, as directed by the Principal. This is an on-call position, requiring flexibility in assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for students with special needs, as directed by the Principal.
  • Work effectively with students and adults, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality.
  • Communicate appropriately with other staff members, students, and parents as directed.
  • Participate in non-violent crisis intervention training and work with non-compliant students in a non-confrontational manner.
  • Dispense approved medications as prescribed by the student's doctor, in accordance with Board Policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a minimum one-year program for Education Assistants from a recognized community or technical program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year college-level training in the Human Services field, with a focus on training in behavior management and students with special needs.
  • Ability to communicate and work as a team player, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License (may be required).
  • Understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
