Job Summary:

The Cook I is a key member of the Nutrition and Food Services team at Southern Health-Santé Sud. As a Cook I, you will be responsible for preparing and serving safe, high-quality meals to clients, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established standards and recipes
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation practices are followed at all times
  • Work efficiently to meet meal production deadlines
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth food service operations
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook/Email
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and modified food textures
  • Knowledge of sanitary food handling principles and procedures
  • Minimum one year full-time health care food service experience or institutional cooking experience
  • Other suitable combinations of education and experience may be considered

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Stand for long periods and lift items up to 1-5 kg (2.2-11 lbs) constantly, 6-11kg (13.2 – 24 lbs) occasionally and 23 kg (50 lbs) seldomly
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Communicate effectively with staff, health care professionals, and co-workers
