- Work site environment
- This role requires working in a cold/refrigerated environment, so you must be comfortable working in a chilly setting.
- Work setting
- Our meat processing and/or packing plant/establishment is a dynamic and physically demanding workplace.
- Tasks
- As a butcher, your primary responsibilities will include cleaning meats to prepare for processing or cutting.
- Cutting, trimming, and preparing standard cuts of meat for our customers.
- Wrapping and packaging prepared meats for distribution.
- Removing bones from meat to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards.
- Weighing meats for sale to ensure accurate inventory and customer satisfaction.
- Grinding meats to meet customer needs and preferences.
- Preparing special displays of meats, poultry, and fish products to showcase our offerings.
- Slaughtering livestock and removing viscera and other inedible parts from carcasses.
- Removing feathers and singeing and washing poultry to prepare for further processing or packaging.
- Preparing special orders to meet customer requests and preferences.
- Cutting beef, lamb, pork, or veal carcasses or sides or quarters of carcasses into primal cuts for further cutting, processing, or packaging.
- Cutting meat and poultry into specific cuts for institutional, commercial, or other wholesale use.
- Security and safety
- Criminal record checks are required for this role to ensure the safety and security of our team and customers.
- Work conditions and physical capabilities
- This role requires standing for extended periods, handling heavy loads, and working in a physically demanding environment.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential for this position.
- Repetitive tasks are a common occurrence in this role, so you must be able to perform tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Sitting is not a significant part of this role, but you may be required to sit during breaks or training sessions.
- Weight handling
- As a butcher, you will be required to handle weights up to 9 kg (20 lbs) and 13.5 kg (30 lbs) regularly.
- Personal suitability
- We are looking for an accurate and team-oriented individual who is committed to providing exceptional customer service.
- This is a permanent role with a minimum of 30 to 35 hours per week.
- English is the primary language spoken in the workplace, so proficiency in English is required.
