About the Role:

The Surgical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre. This role requires strong clinical skills, effective communication, and collaboration with the interprofessional care team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess post-anaesthetic patients, collecting and evaluating information from various sources to determine the best course of action.
  • Provide nursing care to address critical care needs, following established standards and hospital policies.
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, adhering to sound bacteriological and preventative medicine principles.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • One year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and apply nursing theory and expertise to provide nursing care
