Job Summary
Island Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Biochemist or Clinical Chemist to join our team in Victoria, BC. As a key member of our Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic laboratory oversight and participating in the island-wide routine and special chemistry services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Medical Biochemistry Laboratory Service, ensuring high-quality patient care and laboratory operations.
- Develop and implement quality assurance and utilization management strategies to optimize laboratory services.
- Collaborate with clinicians and laboratory staff to provide expert advice on diagnostic testing and therapeutic choices.
- Participate in teaching rounds, committee work, and administrative tasks to support the laboratory service.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in medical biochemistry and clinical chemistry, and apply this knowledge to improve laboratory services.
Requirements
- Hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada specialty certification in Medical Biochemistry or General Pathology.
- Have full, unrestricted license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons British Columbia or hold a PhD degree and be certified (or eligible for certification) in Clinical Chemistry by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (CACB) and/or American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC).
