Job Description:

The role of the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is to provide technical support and guidance on occupational health and safety matters. This includes providing training, coordination, and facilitation services in support of the College's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). The Specialist will deal with operational-level matters, providing direct services support within all levels of the organization and the College community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a training system to support the continual development of the College community in Occupational Health & Safety, Fire Prevention, Emergency Procedures, and Emergency Preparedness;
  • Liaise with College Management staff to ensure the effective delivery of required training for staff and oversee the establishment of effective record-keeping for all College staff safety-related training activities;
  • Develop policy and procedure level documentation in support of emergency management framework and supporting plans;
  • Maintain personnel training records as required;
  • Assist in the maintenance of an effective internal responsibility system for health & safety through coordination, operation, and delivery of the corporate occupational health & safety system.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum three-year Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Special skills to fulfill the requirements of the position, including computer skills, report/business writing, time management and organizational skills, communication, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Additional courses or programs of study related to Occupational Health and Safety and Fire & Life Safety;
  • Minimum five years' experience in technical writing, training systems and methodologies, large institutional workplaces, accident investigation, OHS training roles, and consultative roles with middle management levels and workplace parties.
