The Alberta Foster and Kinship Association (AFKA) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting foster and kinship caregivers across Alberta. We are seeking an experienced leader to join our team as Executive Director. This role will report directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for enabling the achievement of AFKA's vision, mission, and strategic objectives.

About the Role

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the operations of the organization, including strategic planning, governance, administration, finances, partnerships, programs, advocacy, government relations, and communications. This includes:

  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records and providing regular reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborating with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Recruiting, leading, and mentoring support staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring the effective delivery of programs and services that support caregivers.
  • Overseeing the annual conference, training, and workshops for members and internal and external partners.
  • Serving as the primary spokesperson for AFKA, advocating for policies and practices that benefit foster and kinship caregivers and the children they support.
  • Overseeing budgeting, financial management, and fundraising efforts.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with caregivers, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Identifying and developing new revenue streams, programs, and services, and opportunities for fundraising.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced leader who possesses a relevant degree and has a proven track record in nonprofit leadership, including strategic planning, program management, and team leadership. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of policy board governance and collaboration, as well as experience working with the foster and kinship caregiving community.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders. They will also have experience advocating with various levels of government and key stakeholders to influence policy or decisions.
