We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at School District #39 (Vancouver). As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in supporting students with communication challenges and providing technology solutions to enhance their learning experiences.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will provide technology support and educational use of student-based technology solutions for district teams supporting students with significant and diverse learning needs, focusing on those with communication challenges. You will contribute to SET-BC provincial information and training resources to help build district and program capacity to utilize assistive technology with students with significant and diverse learning needs, with a focus on those with speech and language/communication impairments.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide technology support and educational use of student-based technology solutions for district teams supporting students with significant and diverse learning needs, focusing on those with communication challenges.
- Contribute to SET-BC provincial information and training resources to help build district and program capacity to utilize assistive technology with students with significant and diverse learning needs, with a focus on those with speech and language/communication impairments.
- Develop and implement resources that focus on Literacy objectives for complex students as outlined in the new K-12 Literacy Supports Initiative from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
- Develop and utilize an appropriate assessment tool that will provide data of successful implementation during the length of this initiative.
- Continuously assess data from the assessment tool to inform and drive best practice instruction for internal and district staff.
- Contribute to SET-BC training resources to help build program and individual educator capacity to provide services to districts and independent schools.
- Consult with school teams and SET-BC Educators to identify and plan for technologies to meet individual student needs and educational plans.
- Develop technology training and workshop materials and lead face-to-face and online sessions for district staff, especially in the area of communication support technologies.
- Facilitate small group training events, both face-to-face and online, presenting a range of topics from specific technology implementation to best practices in supporting student-based communication technology solutions in the classroom environment.
- Act as a resource for SET-BC Educators in the area of specific communication (AAC) technologies, evaluating new products, developing resources, and carrying out annual research and special projects.
- Provide support to educators in the area of assistive technology, evaluate new products, develop resources, and participate in new projects.
- Implement SET-BC provincial policies, programs, and initiatives, including reporting and recording service delivery as required.
- Participate in SET-BC staff development activities.
- Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology and membership in the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC.
- Proven experience working collaboratively.
- Experience and/or willingness to implement specialized student-based technology solutions in classroom settings.
- Experience in the educational uses of specialized, assistive technologies (AT) and augmentative alternative communication (AAC) to support students with profound physical, communication, and/or sensory perception challenges.
- Understanding of best practices in adult education with experience in technology training is preferable.
- Excellent oral, written communication skills, advanced computer skills, and good organizational skills.
- Valid BC Driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to travel in the Lower Mainland and throughout the Province.
