Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our team at BC Children's & Women's Hospital in Vancouver, BC. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions, preparing and processing prescriptions, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to patients, clients, or residents.
  • Receive prescriptions from practitioners and ensure that prescriptions are complete and authentic by verifying allergy status and demographics.
  • Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, or re-packaging medications and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products according to established procedures.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions prepared by self or others by verifying order entries and/or performing the final check of dispensed prescriptions.
  • Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leave of absence by reviewing, translating, and converting existing inpatient medication orders previously reviewed and approved by a pharmacist.
  • Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
  • Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
  • Maintain accurate records, including medication verification and quality assurance checks.
  • Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  • Maintain inventory and wardstock levels, filling requisitions as needed.
  • Identify outdated drugs to be returned or destroyed by checking stock for lot expiry dates.
  • Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order, stocking pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware according to established procedures and standards.
  • Perform related clerical duties, including keyboarding, answering the telephone, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 and graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
