About the RoleThe successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a team of hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental scientists to manage hydrogeological projects in support of land development, infrastructure, and water supply objectives. Key responsibilities will include:
- Proposal and budget preparation, hydrogeological program development and implementation, associated analysis and reporting.
- Implementation, management, supervision, and/or technical support for a wide variety of hydrogeological field programs, including drilling and coring, test pit excavation, monitoring, test, and municipal well construction, hydraulic response testing, sampling of soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, and gas, and infiltration rate testing.
- Competent management of consulting projects, including scope development, field program implementation, reporting, accounting, and budget management, project team and resources management, client and regulator communications.
- Excellence in report preparation, including data synthesis, assessment, interpretation, modeling, technical writing, and presentation.
- Verbal and visual presentations to clients, regulators, and the public.
- Training and mentoring of junior and technical staff.
- Client development support.
- Ability to work in teams and with different technical disciplines.
- Continuing professional development.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's and Master's degree in Earth Science, Geological Engineering, or similar with a demonstrated emphasis in physical hydrogeology.
- Registration with Professional Geoscientists Ontario or Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in consulting.
- Demonstrated experience in completing and managing hydrogeological field programs.
- Strong knowledge of the application of physical hydrogeology, including hydrogeological site characterization, hydraulic testing, construction dewatering, water balance (hydrologic budget), and Low Impact Development, water supply, source water protection, private servicing, and a variety of monitoring programs.
- Familiarity with software packages related or specific to physical hydrogeology (Aqtesolv, Surfer, Leap Frog, Excel, Access, EQuIS). Groundwater flow and transport modeling experience considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario's regulatory framework for groundwater takings, drinking water supply and quality, source water protection, and well construction.
- Knowledge of local Conservation Authority regulatory framework for land development and source water protection considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with managing consulting projects from proposal through to completion.
- Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.
- Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and organizational skills.
