Job Summary: VON Canada is seeking a skilled Activity Coordinator to join our team in the Adult Day Program. As an Activity Coordinator, you will play a vital role in providing quality support and care for individuals attending the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of service plans for clients attending the Adult Day Program.
  • Implement, evaluate, and revise service plans on an ongoing basis in collaboration with family/caregivers and internal team members.
  • Collaborate with the Recreational Therapist and/or Program Coordinator in planning and implementing social and recreational programs.
  • Participate in one-on-one activities to stimulate mobility, language, reminiscing, group identity, and listening skills of clients.
  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required, including toileting and personal hygiene.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify risk factors and introduce interventions to minimize and eliminate client incidents.
  • Ensure safety and security measures for clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Utilize volunteers' talents and expertise within the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Designations, and Experience:

  • Diploma or Certificate from a Community College level program or equivalent in health care, social services, or recreation with an emphasis on Gerontology.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Certification with GPA, Montessori an asset.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience in Adult Day Services or working with groups of seniors is an asset.
  • Experience providing recreational programs and working with adults, especially individuals (and their caregivers), with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities in a social setting is a requirement.

Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good observational skills related to client functioning abilities.
  • Awareness of community resources.
  • Ability to take direction, as well as work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Other:

  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • Must have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques.
  • Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics.
  • Walk, sit, stand, climb stairs.
