Job Title: Custodian

We are seeking a qualified Custodian to join our team at School District 8 - Kootenay Lake. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our students and staff.

Job Summary:

The Custodian will be responsible for cleaning, minor maintenance, and security of our facilities. This includes:

  • Ensuring a clean and safe environment for students and staff
  • Performing minor maintenance tasks, such as tightening screws and repairing dispensers
  • Operating required equipment, such as cleaning machines and tools
  • Utilizing good cleaning practices and procedures
  • Meeting and dealing tactfully with public and other staff members
  • Following oral and written instructions
  • Working with minimum supervision and having good organizational skills
  • Having a valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License (may be required)
  • Having a minimum Grade 10 education
  • Understanding and knowledge of safe work practices
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of a Building Service Workers' course or equivalent and/or training and experience in an education environment
  • Ability to care for and operate required equipment
  • Ability to utilize good cleaning practices and procedures
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with public and other staff members
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and have good organizational skills
  • May be required to have a valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License
  • Minimum Grade 10 education
  • Understanding and knowledge of safe work practices
Working Conditions:

This role involves:

  • Work that is physically demanding and involves walking, standing, stooping, reaching, lifting, moving furniture and carrying equipment in accordance with WorkSafe BC requirements
  • Work that is indoors in well-lit and heated buildings, with occasional outdoor work
