The Halton Regional Police Service is seeking a skilled Video Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our Regional Investigative Services Team Computer Crime Unit, you will play a critical role in supporting our service's evolving audio-visual and computer multi-media technical support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert technical support and advice to all units of the Halton Regional Police Service on the operation of software, hardware, and equipment.
- Analyze, process, enhance, and maintain multimedia evidence for criminal investigations and court testimony.
- Attend crime scenes or relevant locations to gather video evidence for Police use.
- Collect, analyze, and prepare video evidence for court, ensuring continuity of evidence.
- Utilize enhanced imaging software to produce forensically sound video evidence.
- Assist Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), and Regional Investigative Services (RIS) officers with processing and analysis of multimedia evidence and video systems.
- Forensically process, capture, and/or enhance various images and/or video, which may become evidence in Court.
- Record accurate logs of analysis work, prepare presentations, and reports on evidence and technical issues.
- Maintain audio/video/digital records library by receiving and cataloguing new video.
- Provide expert testimony in Court, as required, and provide detailed explanations on how videotapes/digital video and images are recorded, compression of digital images, and date/time stamping.
- Maintain log for tracking equipment booking and returns by other units.
- Conduct research on surveillance systems, forensic analysis, and audio/video/digital related new technology and tools.
- Provide informational presentations to Officers regarding the proper collection and handling of video evidence.
- Maintain membership in LEVA, OFVAA, and other relevant organizations that support the forensic video community.
- Liaise with security industry and video analysts from other police services to exchange information and seek required assistance with recording systems or equipment, where required.
- Two-year community college diploma in video and television production, photography, or other related field, plus knowledge in analogue and digital video recording systems.
- Two years' experience working with image processing software, editing software, cameras, and scanners.
- Ability to import/view/extract images from a given video using common CCTV viewing programs.
- Ability to process/enhance/clarify images using an appropriate level of processing software.
- Must have advanced computer knowledge/skills and be familiar with the operation of computer-based editing and video processing systems.
- Must be experienced in processing digital images, as well as having a basic knowledge of the principles of photography.
- Previous knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite, Amped Five, Axon Investigate, or Magnet Witness software applications would be preferred.
- Previous hands-on experience with editing, enhancing, and/or manipulating images on video recording systems will be considered an asset.
