Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Utilities Systems Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of our municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring reliable services delivery, safety, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of utility operators, providing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee daily activities, including scheduling, training, and maintenance of essential service facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, provincial, and local regulations, as well as licensing and code of practice standards.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, procedures, and budgets for operations and maintenance.
  • Respond to emergency situations, coordinating repair efforts and ensuring minimal disruption to services.
  • Monitor and manage budgets, preparing accurate reports and records related to operations, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct regular testing and sampling of water and wastewater to ensure compliance with provincial standards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and emergency activities on all municipal infrastructure, including linear mains/branches, pump stations, and lift stations.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to plan and execute infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff and other municipal departments.
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (asset).
  • Minimum 5 years of municipal experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Level 2 Alberta Environment Certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant processes, equipment, and regulations.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations outside regular working hours.
  • Proficiency in using computer software for data management and reporting.

  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions.
Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is between $120,000 to $180,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include comprehensive health and dental insurance, a generous pension plan, and opportunities for professional development and growth.
