The City of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Manager of Communications & Outreach. This position plays a critical part in managing all aspects of municipal elections and by-elections on behalf of the City Clerk, City Council, four (4) School Boards, and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
As a member of the Elections Management Team, this individual will be responsible for managing a team of Project Managers leading public engagement and education programs, community outreach, marketing, communication, and partnerships. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, managing, and implementing detailed project plans and operating budgets, and recommending policies regarding program-specific requirements to the Senior Elections Management Team.
- Providing strategic advice and support to the Director of Operations and Deputy City Clerk on the effective delivery of elections, including referenda, recounts, and contract elections, that align with the Clerk's statutory obligations.
- Managing the day-to-day operation of assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work. Authorizing and coordinating vacation and overtime requests.
- Monitoring and evaluating staff performance, approving salary increments, hearing grievances, and recommending disciplinary action when necessary.
- Managing, motivating, and training staff by providing direction and guidance, processes, and tools to increase efficiencies and improve the effectiveness of services. Ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, and staff performance, continuous learning, and encouraging innovation in others.
