Rehabilitation Therapist Assistant

About the Role
At Fraser Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team. This role is responsible for implementing rehabilitation treatment plans and programs under the direction of a therapist, and assisting with monitoring and evaluating a client's response to the treatment plan.Key Responsibilities
- Carries out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan, including activities of daily living, mobility, strengthening, and balance exercises/activities, and leisure therapy.
- Provides functional skills training to clients/families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication, including integration with other client supports within the community.
- Observes and reports cognitive and functional changes in a client's ability or behavior to the therapist, and progresses treatment plans within established parameters.
- Documents client information in accordance with practice standards and program guidelines, and completes required reports and administrative duties.
- Assists with manual and power wheelchair mobility training, and demonstrates the use of assistive devices to clients and their families.
- Prepares, modifies, and organizes equipment, and sets up and adapts equipment as required.
- Provides education to clients, family, and other healthcare providers on patient lifts, transfers, positioning of clients, and good body mechanics.
- Prioritizes and organizes daily workload, and maintains therapy equipment and supplies by cleaning equipment and maintaining inventories.
- Advocates for clients by problem-solving in areas such as accessing community resources, teaching community integration skills, and use of alternate transportation.
Requirements
- Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program, plus one year recent related clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, and ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients, and knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
