Master Artist for High-Quality Game Materials
2 weeks ago
We're looking for a skilled Principal Materials Artist to join our team and create exceptional game materials that will elevate our players' experiences.
About the RoleAs a Principal Materials Artist, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining a high-quality library of textures and materials that will serve as the backbone for all of our game's surfacing needs.
- You'll work closely with the Environment Team, reporting to the Lead Environment Artist, to build, curate, and manage a core library of textures and materials.
- You'll address the needs of other disciplines, including Hard Surface and Character teams, to ensure a shared library is beneficial.
- You'll collaborate with Technical Art to co-develop our layered material system and customize it to suit specific needs.
- You'll work with Lighting to ensure consistency in our surface response across the game.
- You'll communicate new and changing surface textures to internal and external teams.
- You'll create pipelines supporting assets from Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Megascan textures.
- You'll work with production to schedule and deliver assets on time.
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- 4+ years of professional experience as a 3D Artist for games, preferably working on AAA titles through the full development cycle.
- A portfolio showcasing highly detailed surfaces with a focus on realistic material development, including naturalistic, artificial, and foliage surfaces.
- Mastery of relevant software packages, such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter.
- A strong service-minded approach to helping other art departments.
- A solid understanding of modern physically based rendering, especially in Unreal Engine.
- Experience developing your own material graphs is a plus, as Technical Art will do the heavy lifting, but the ability to quickly prototype and communicate is valuable.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4/5 is a nice-to-have, but not required.
- A desire to work in a collaborative, iterative team environment, where giving and accepting constructive feedback is essential.
- Passion for making and playing games.
We provide comprehensive benefits, including paid time off, sick leave, holidays, parental leave, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. Our goal is to support your physical, emotional, financial, career, and community wellness throughout your journey with us.
