Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Stantec Consulting International Ltd. in Markham, Ontario.

This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive salary range of $110,000 - $140,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of high-performance fire protection systems projects, including design, analysis, and review of fire protection systems.
  • Design fire suppression and detection systems, as well as other related systems.
  • Assess fire and life safety performance of new and existing building fire protection systems using applicable Codes and Standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications for fire protection systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, shop drawing reviews, construction site visits, and verifications for various fire protection systems.
  • Conduct site audits of fire protection systems performance, as-built conditions, and Code conformance.
  • Review contract documents, including drawings and specifications for Code conformance.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including other fire protection personnel, contractors, and technical disciplines, for successful project delivery.
  • Solve unusual design problems and conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions and review construction.
  • Prepare reports and other technical communication, as well as assist in preparing project proposals and liaising with clients.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Self-motivated, problem-solving, and solution-oriented, with a high level of accountability.
  • Ability to assess conditions of existing systems, analyze performance, and Code conformance.
  • Comfortable preparing written reports with cost estimates.
  • Competent in design calculations for fire protection systems.
  • Experience with completing drawings and specifications.
  • Able to undertake site review and verification of systems.
  • Strong communication skills for advising clients on recommended fire protection system features.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and national building and fire codes, standards, and best practice guidelines related to the storage, use, and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles of fire dynamics, the behavior of materials in fire, and human behavior in fire is desired.
Education and Experience

Degree in Engineering (fire safety/protection preferred, however, mechanical or electrical is also acceptable).

Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, consulting experience preferred; however, design experience in a contractor environment may be considered.

Experience in fire protection system design, fire alarm system design, or related systems design.
