Job Title: Custodian/Cleaner

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian/Cleaner to join our team at Neeginan Centre Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our properties, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning, janitorial services, and basic maintenance tasks in accordance with established schedules and standards.
  • Ensure all areas are clean and tidy, including offices, washrooms, and public spaces.
  • Empty trash receptacles and garbage containers, and maintain a clean and organized janitorial room.
  • Replenish supplies in janitor rooms and public spaces, and wash windows and glass surfaces.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and wax hard floor surfaces, and wash walls, bathroom stalls, and other soiled surfaces.
  • Assist in the set-up of the building for meetings and special events, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent level of education and experience, with the ability to read, write, and understand written and verbal communications in English.
  • 1 year of experience in a similar role, with a sound knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment, and job performance standards.
  • Clear criminal record check and child abuse registry check required.

Specialized Skills:

  • Safe use of floor polishers, automated floor scrubbers, vacuums, and carpet cleaners.
  • WHMIS training or willingness to train.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to train.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) knowledge and proper use.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs (22kg) – moderate physical effort.
  • Minor exposure to dirt, dust, and fumes.
  • Able to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Able to regularly use stairs in a multi-storey building.
