Electrical Controls Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to join our team at Linamar Corporation. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical control systems for our mobile equipment products.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop electrical control systems for mobile equipment products, including vehicle system controls, machine harness drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and system schematics.
  2. Develop supporting calculations to ensure designs meet specification requirements, including functional, safety, legal compliance, and manufacturing capabilities.
  3. Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects, including design reviews, testing, and validation.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to achieve project objectives and timelines.
  5. Perform DFMEA on proposed solutions to identify potential failures early in the process and adjust planning accordingly.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve any design-related issues throughout the development cycle.
  7. Prepare software requirement documents as required.
  8. Interact with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to investigate technologies and their applications.
  9. Monitor the development of new technologies and upcoming suppliers.
  10. Build relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to enable the development of new technologies.
  11. Design and test prototypes, employing data collection, analysis techniques, and optimization to achieve target performance.
  12. Provide support in checking details, assemblies, and BOMs for assigned projects.
  13. Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or an Electrical discipline.
  2. Currently registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or working towards achieving their designation.
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience as a Controls Engineer in a mobile/heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment is preferred.
  4. Practical experience and knowledge of custom microcontrollers, CAN bus communications, vehicle electrical connectors, solenoid valves, and other mobile equipment electrical components is an asset.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of general electrical skills.
  6. Ability to interpret, modify, and generate electrical schematics.
  7. Design experience with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred), experience with AutoCAD desirable.
  8. Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and must be capable of thinking outside of the box.
  9. Exceptional research, hands-on data collection, and data analysis skills.
  10. Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
