About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join our Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Physical Geography. The successful candidate will have expertise in Earth's physical environment and develop an externally funded research program with strong connections to industry, government, and/or relevant end-users, stakeholders and rights holders.
About the Department
Our department is a dynamic and collaborative community of scholars with expertise in a wide range of fields, including climate change, environment-society interactions, cold regions (human and biophysical), urban environments, culture, migration, sustainability, geomatics, spatial data science, and artificial intelligence (AI). We offer BA, BSc, MA, MSc, and PhD programs and maintain close collaborations with researchers in other departments at the University of Ottawa and nearby universities and in government.
About the Job
The responsibilities of this position include establishing and maintaining a robust, externally funded research program, recruiting and supervising graduate students, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to existing programs in the department, and contributing to administrative and academic activities for the department and faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs and develop an innovative research program with strong connections to industry, government, and/or relevant end-users, stakeholders and rights holders.
- Establish a Robust Research Program: Develop an externally funded research program with strong connections to industry, government, and/or relevant end-users, stakeholders and rights holders.
- Teach and Supervise: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to existing programs in the department and supervise graduate students.
- Contribute to Administration and Academics: Contribute to administrative and academic activities for the department and faculty.
About the Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a doctorate in Physical Geography or another relevant discipline by July 1, 2025. They must demonstrate a track record of research excellence in Physical Geography, evidence to support the establishment of an innovative research program, demonstrated ability or concrete plan to attract external funding, commitment to teaching and graduate training in our Department's programs, and demonstrated knowledge of principles related to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of research and training programs. Active bilingualism in French and English is required to receive tenure.
