Medical Director, Cowichan Primary Care Network

Island Health is seeking a part-time Medical Director to lead the Cowichan Primary Care Network. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Medical Director of the Cowichan Valley and will be responsible for providing co-leadership to the network of non-private clinics within the Primary Care Network.
The Medical Director will work collaboratively with the PCN Director to provide leadership and oversight to ensure efficient, effective, and integrated service delivery across Island Health sites. They will also link with Departmental Medical Leaders to address matters of physician governance and professional medical practice issues.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and other stakeholders. They will be responsible for establishing processes and structures to engage physicians and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery, and for monitoring program budget and performance.
Main responsibilities of this position include:
- Leadership: Co-leads and oversees activities to ensure program service delivery is efficient, effective, and integrated across Island Health sites.
- Operations & Quality: Establishes processes and structures to engage physicians and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery.
- Change Management: Co-develops and implements change management plans to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
- Informatics: Oversees activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery using the Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Planning: Assesses, monitors, and anticipates program resource needs, and works with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
Additional contract content includes working collaboratively in a co-leadership model with assigned Director, chairing or co-chairing relevant quality and operational committees, and dedicating time to this position during Island Health regular working hours.
