Job Title: Senior Interlocking System Designer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Interlocking System Designer to join our team at ALSTOM Gruppe. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing interlocking systems for railway signaling projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Block Design Development:
    • Develop single line and double line signaling plans, including signal location, switch machine location and type, bungalow types and locations, platform locations and grades;
    • Update single line signaling plans with track circuits, IJs, speeds, interlocking zones, level crossing, approach limits and timers;
    • Develop route and aspects charts for all signals/routes;
    • Conduct safety braking calculations;
    • Prepare block design reports.
  • IXL System Design:
    • Capture customer architectural requirements;
    • Capture internal and external interfaces of the IXL system;
    • Capture complexity of yard layouts to be managed by the IXL system;
    • Capture environmental/climatic installation conditions of the IXL system;
    • Identify trackside equipment to be controlled and detected and application conditions related to trackside engineering;
    • Identify migration needs to be satisfied by the IXL solution;
    • Evaluate space constraints for installation of pre-fitted configurations of the IXL solution;
    • Take into account work methods constraints for installation of pre-fitted configurations of the IXL solution;
    • Capture IXL product application conditions;
    • Capture IXL product functional features and capabilities.
  • Pre-fitted Solution Design:
    • Define components of the IXL architecture composed of Central Interlocking Computer, Remote Area Controllers, HMI servers and Clients to satisfy customer requirements;
    • Define and lead design of pre-fitted solution of Central Interlocking Computer, Remote Area Controllers and Safe HMI Clients in terms of racks and cubicle housing, internal cabling, power supply needs and interfaces towards other subsystems/equipment;
    • Organize and lead activities for production of exhaustive document set to permit correct assembly and off-site testing (FAT) of pre-fitted solutions;
    • Define IXL equipment breakdown (racks, electronic actuators, power supply, cabling) of pre-fitted solution;
    • Ensure application and adherence to reference processes applicable to solution design, methods & tools, requesting deviations whenever appropriate;
    • Support Installation and Test & Commissioning teams during first installation of solution and its testing;
    • Share and spread knowledge of IXL system architecture features to project engineering community;
    • Represent ALSTOM Gruppe in front of customers, providing detailed explanation of IXL architecture solution and features;
    • Select and manage subcontractors (if any);
    • Manage work packages or related tasks assigned for definition of new IXL architecture and pre-fitted solutions.

Requirements:

  • Engineering Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Automation Engineering or related technical discipline;
  • P. Eng certification or in progress;
  • 5-10 years in relevant positions (systems / sub-systems application design or integration, electrotechnical product development) in highly complex and normative environment (railway signaling, aerospace, defense);
  • Good analytical skills and previous experience in system design & integration;
  • Knowledge of IXL Systems, safety principles and power supply background;
  • Knowledge of IXL ALSTOM product.
