About the Role:

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled Junior Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic team in Calgary or Edmonton. As a key member of our Oil Sands Monitoring Branch, you will contribute to the design of groundwater monitoring programs, protocols, and conceptual models.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Collaborating with Indigenous communities to address groundwater-related concerns and questions
  • Developing monitoring plans, budgets, innovative studies, and novel methods for assessing groundwater conditions in the oil sands region
  • Working with relevant staff to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of groundwater monitoring programs
  • Ensuring scientific rigor by evaluating groundwater data, preparing technical reports, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings to stakeholders

Requirements:

  • A master's degree in hydrogeology, contaminant hydrogeology, physical hydrogeology, geology, geostatistics, environmental (bio)geochemistry, environmental engineering, water resources, or a related field
  • Two years of experience in groundwater quality and quantity analysis, environmental monitoring, addressing emerging groundwater issues, utilizing drilling techniques and well installation, conducting data analysis and applying statistical methods, performing hydrogeological modeling, and preparing scientific reporting

What We Offer:

This is a full-time, permanent position with a work schedule from Monday to Friday, totaling 36.25 hours per week. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Alberta's commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.
