The estimated annual salary for this role is $175,000 - $225,000 CAD, depending on experience.

Job Description

This Staff Software Engineer position will play a pivotal role in designing and building robust backend systems using Node.js. You will be responsible for driving the architectural direction of the project, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. As a leader, you will also mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and enforce engineering standards across the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement backend services, APIs, and distributed systems using Node.js.
  • Define and drive the architecture of complex systems, focusing on best practices in scalability, performance, and security.
  • Collaborate with product managers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver features meeting business and technical requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Conduct code reviews, ensure code quality, and enforce engineering standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and integrate new technologies into the development process where appropriate.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development.
  • Expertise in Node.js and related frameworks (e.g., Express, Koa).
  • Strong architectural skills, with experience designing scalable, distributed systems.
  • Proficient in building RESTful APIs, microservices, and working with databases (both SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of software development best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies such as React or Angular.
  • Previous experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment.
