Join Our Team as a Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team at School District #23 (Central Okanagan). As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between Deaf students and their teachers, ensuring that all students have equal access to education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret American Sign Language (ASL) in educational settings
  • Tutor students in ASL
  • Adapt teaching materials to meet the needs of Deaf students
  • Compile and update student records
  • Monitor student behavior
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Graduate of an accredited interpreter training program
  • Previous experience interpreting in an educational setting (an asset)
  • At least six months experience working with Deaf students with language delays
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of the IEP team
What We Offer:
  • 10-month permanent position (27.5 hours/week)
  • Wage rate of $32.37 per hour as of July 1, 2024
