Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Anaesthesia Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health. As an Anaesthesia Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing clinical support and care to patients undergoing anaesthesia and surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and clinical assistance to anaesthesiologists during induction, maintenance, and recovery phases of anaesthesia.
  • Monitor physiological responses of patients during surgery and maintain accurate records.
  • Operate and maintain anaesthesiology, cell-saving, and related equipment.
  • Assist with and/or perform duties involving pre-induction, arterial line catheterization, endotracheal intubation, central line insertion, autotransfusion, and pulmonary artery catheter insertion.
  • Participate in clinical committees, anaesthesiology research, and special projects.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services under clinical direction of the anaesthesiologist.
  • Assist with airway emergencies and cardiac arrests in the Operating Room and Post Anesthetic Care Unit.
  • Initiate and provide ventilatory support services for patients in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit.
  • Perform scheduled and routine maintenance and repairs on anaesthetic and cell-saving equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited post-graduate diploma Anaesthesia Assistant Program.
  • Graduation from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy Diploma Program plus three years' recent related clinical experience, including one year of recent experience working as an Anaesthesia Assistant.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapy (BCSRT).
  • Current certification in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current anaesthesia assistant theory and practice.
  • Broad knowledge of Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society clinical practice guidelines for Anaesthesia Assistants.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement anaesthesia-related plans of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care and respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
