Job Summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Mitigation and Adaptation Forester. This role is responsible for conducting research and developing policies related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in boreal forest management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on climate change mitigation and adaptation activities.
  • Implement related projects and develop policies for the Forestry and Peatlands Branch.
  • Work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Develop and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation activities related to boreal forest management and renewal practices.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental management, or biological sciences.
  • Experience developing and implementing climate change policies relating to boreal forests and/or peatlands.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and preparing synthesis documents.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.

Working Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, and by rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
