Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical & Structural Designer to join our Hard Rock LHD & Trucks Product Engineering team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing new and innovative products to solve problems faced by our customers. This includes utilizing computer-aided software, specifically SolidWorks, to create 3D layouts, drawings, and schematics of parts, assemblies, and technical renderings.

Key Job Responsibilities
  1. Design, analyze, and test structural & mechanical components using SolidWorks CAD system and FEA to verify mechanical & structural components.
  2. Provide support during the assembly phase of capital equipment.
  3. Prepare shop drawing packages for equipment, including SRF drawings and General Assembly drawings.
  4. Perform drawing updates to address ECNs and NCRs.
  5. Prepare proposal drawings and cost estimates as required to support sales.
  6. Provide technical support to the service department to resolve design issues and commissioning issues.
  7. Complete design work as required and participate in testing of prototypes.
  8. Assist with technical specifications and SRF forms for capital equipment.
  9. Work with production and quality to test functionality of machines after build.
  10. Visit customer sites to support sales, on-site issues, and commissioning issues as required.
  11. Suggest and prepare spare parts lists for capital equipment units.
Qualifications/Requirements
  1. University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. 3+ years of experience in design of underground hard rock equipment desired.
  3. Knowledge of mechanical design standards, techniques, methods, and architecture.
  4. Experience in weldment design and stress analysis.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office software and ERP systems (SAP considered an asset).
  6. Experience with project management methodologies and software.
  7. Fully competent with 3D CAD design, preferably SolidWorks.
  8. Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and EHS regulations.
  9. Good understanding of manufacturing processes (in particular welding and machining).
  10. Understanding of Bill of Materials and MRP systems (ECN's/NCR's).
  11. Solid problem-solving skills, including the ability to conduct investigations, perform calculations, and run tests.
  12. High level of initiative with the ability to work independently and as part of a broader team.
  13. Knowledge of fluid mechanics and electrics.
  14. Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  15. Proficient in Ansys for mechanical and structural FEA.
