About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Midwife to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a primary care provider, you will be responsible for delivering safe and flexible primary care to women and their babies during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to women and their newborns
  • Conduct physical examinations, screening and diagnostic tests, and assess risk and abnormal conditions
  • Deliver normal vaginal deliveries and work in collaboration with other health professionals
  • Consult with or refer to medical specialists as appropriate
  • Provide continuity of care and support throughout the childbearing experience

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a Canadian university midwifery education program or equivalent
  • Active practicing license or eligibility for active practice license from the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), and Emergency Skills in Obstetrics
  • Proof of ongoing professional development and/or upgrading
  • Recent midwifery practice experience that meets the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia standards for currency of practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making skills in crisis situations
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect and safety

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with multicultural and vulnerable populations
  • Competencies in other languages, particularly French
